What is an Awning and Why Do You Need One?

An awning is an extension or canopy for your caravan that provides extra shade, protection, and space during camping or outdoor adventures. There are mainly two types of awnings:

1. Full Awning

   • Covers the entire side of the caravan.
   • Selected based on the A-measurement (H) of the caravan.
   • Ideal for those who need extra space.

2. Porch Awning

   • Covers a specific section of the caravan rather than the entire length.
   • Selected based on H (height) and L (length) measurements.
   • Lightweight and easy to set up.

How to Determine the Right Awning Size

Choosing a Full Awning

To choose a full awning, you need to measure the A-measurement (H) of your caravan.

How to Measure:

1. Use a measuring tape or rope to measure from the ground at one side of the caravan, over the top, and down to the ground on the other side (as shown by the red line).
2. This measurement is usually H = 235-250 cm.
3. Select an awning size based on this measurement.

Tips:

• If the awning is too tight, it will put pressure on the frame.
• If it’s too loose, it may become unstable in windy conditions.

Choosing a Porch Awning

A porch awning covers only a portion of the caravan and is easier to set up. To choose one, you need to measure H and L.

How to Measure:

1. Measure the H (height) of your caravan (usually 235-250 cm).
2. Measure the L (length) of the section you want to cover, starting from the door or window area.
3. Select a porch awning based on these measurements.

Tips:

• If your caravan has a window near the door, make sure the awning fits properly.
• Choose a strong frame if you camp in windy areas.
