  The distance from the ground, up around the full length of your awning rail to the ground on the other side of your caravan.  
  Both Caravan and Caravan Awning Manufacturers use an industry standard, universal size chart 4- 22. to determine what awning size will fit your caravan.  

  

  Caravan Designers and Awning Manufacturers do not always agree on the A-Measurement, which is why you may find contradicting information available online. 

  The Dreaded Number and How To Measure:

  1. Park your caravan on level ground.
  2. Thread a string (ideally 10m+).

  PORCH AWNINGS - Everything you need to know

  Most Porch Awnings sizes are generally much more flexible when it comes to positioning.  Two things to consider here…

  1. Straight Awning Rail Measurement – The length of the straight part of your caravan roof. This would determine the maximum width porch awning you can fit to your leisure vehicle.

  2. Where Does Your Porch Connect to your caravan –  Before opting out for the biggest possible porch, it is important to consider the position of your windows, storage compartment access and fridge vents. 

  The Biggest size is not always the best choice when it comes to porch awnings…  
  The last thing you want is you brand new porch awning side wall sitting across a window and letting draught in obstructing vents or blocking a storage locker with essential gear

  Unlike touring caravans, motorhome awnings come in various widths, lengths and sizes. Taking the correct measurement here is crucial for a secure and weather resistant fit to your leisure vehicle.. 

  

  Measure Your Awning Length 

  Within the front part of your motorhome awning you will find a C-channel very similar in design to the awning rail on a caravan. This measurement will give you the connection length of the awning you need.

  Measure Your Fitment Height 

  The Distance from the bottom of your wind-out canopy to the ground (or visa versa). This would give you the awning height at the connection point. Most motorhome awnings and drive away models have height options.
